STORM FORECAST

Hot_topic
“A big ole nasty storm” is in the forecast for this weekend, one that could cause “coastal flooding and beach erosion not seen in many years.”

Those quotes are from a story in today’s Star-Ledger, which reports that “a powerful nor’easter is taking aim at New Jersey, promising more drenching rain, high winds and concerns over coastal flooding and beach erosion.”

Even after the storm passes, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing much sunshine before next Thursday.

From the reprt:

Even as the rain fell yesterday, a storm expected to form over the Carolinas and move northward Sunday was dominating forecasters’ attention.

“It looks just like a big ole nasty storm,” said Jim Eberwine, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. “I’m sure the adjectives will be flying over the next few days. For so late in the season, it’s going to be a whopper.”

The coastal storm could sit off the New Jersey coast until Tuesday, punishing the Shore with high winds and surf during a period of already high lunar tides, forecasters said.

Looks like the storm is expected to reach us late Saturday, with the heaviest rains arrivig Sunday morning.

From the National Weather Service:

Overnight [Friday]: Partly cloudy, with a low around 39. West wind around 16 mph.
