Students will walk their hearts out to raise money for cancer research.
What: Third annual Relay For Life of the Two Rivers walkathon to benefit the American Cancer Society, with live entertainment, movies, contests and games throughout the night.
Where: Red Bank Regional High School football field and track.
When: From noon Saturday until 7a Sunday.
Need to know: Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration at which individuals and teams walk or run around a track relay style to raise money from sponsors. The challenge: at least one team member must be on the track at all times.
The event begins with a celebratory brunch for all area cancer survivors and their caregivers. The same group begins the relay with the emotional “Survivor Lap,” in which survivors walk in one direction around the track while their caregivers walk in the other until they meet on the track to begin the festivities.
The Luminaria, a poignant display of paper-bag encased candles illuminating the dark track, is observed at 10p to memorialize those lost to cancer and sustain hope for its survivors.
Formerly the Little Silver Relay For Life, the event has raised more than $170,000 in the its first two years at RBR.
