“This is AWEsome!”

So proclaimed Fiona Abrahamsen of Rumson as she walked on the Navesink River for the first time ever yesterday afternoon.

Of course, the surface of the river was quite hard, giving Abrahamsen and her family, as well as a smattering of ice boaters, firm support.

But the ice may soon vanish.

The National Weather Service is forecasting virtually tropical temperatures compared to those we’ve experienced of late.

Here’s the extended outlook:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 27. West wind between 7 and 9 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. West wind between 8 and 11 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. West wind around 10 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 47. West wind between 5 and 7 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.

Sunday: A chance of rain after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Sunday Night: A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

M.L.King Day: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.
