After five days of veterinary care for what was believed to be food poisoning, a mute swan was released back into the Navesink River at Maple Cove in Red Bank Sunday by site activist Cindy Burnham, who found the ailing animal there last week.
The homecoming was not without drama. After swimming around a bit, the swan headed toward two others, one of which proceeded to attack it. Several squawks and hisses later, Burnham was able to shoo the offending swan back into the water. (Photos by Stacie Fanelli. Click to enlarge)
