SANDY HOOK: BEACH BLANKET FREEBIES

Grab those beach chairs from the garage and shine up your best dancing flip flops: the season of free outdoor summer concerts is upon us, with the local action keynoted as always by the Sandy Hook Beach Concert Series.

Presented at 6 pm each Wednesday by the Sandy Hook Foundation at Beach Area E, the long-running slate of all-ages, all-welcome celebrations comes equipped with sandy seating, natural A/C and complimentary sunsets. It all begins anew on Wednesday with a season starter starring Brian Kirk and the Jirks.

The veteran beach-bar entertainers (who recently served as featured attraction at the Jersey Shore Partnership’s annual start-of-summer gala on the Hook) may have lost their former every-Sunday spot at the Sandy-savaged Donovan’s Reef, but they’ve continued to lend a beachy vibe to gigs that range from landlocked to luxuriously formal – and they’ll be serving the opening volley for the following schedule:

June 24: Irish-born rocker Steve Reilly with the Rain Band

July 1: A salute to the Fab Four and more, with British Invasion Tribute

July 8: The return of Tim McLoone and the Shirleys

July 15: Classic Shore sounds with the Carl Gentry Band

July 22: Best of Motown with Motor City Revue

July 29: Pat Guadagno and the Candle Brothers

August 5: Rock and roll double bill with the Haven and the Sam Sims Trio (5:30 start time)

August 12: The return of the Shots

August 19: (RAIN DATE)

Beach wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In case of severe weather forecast, cancellations are made at 2 pm on the day of the show. Check the website or call (732) 291-7733 for information.

Remember: Nothing makes a Red Bank friend happier than to hear "I saw you on Red Bank Green!"
