Press release from Little Silver Environmental Commission
On Saturday, March 25, the Borough of Little Silver once again presents its annual Environmental Day, an opportunity for residents to cut down on waste and clutter around their households, while learning about green solutions and other earth-friendly topics.
Hosted at the Women’s Club of Little Silver (111 Church Street), the four-hour event is scheduled to run between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a variety of services offered free of charge — including paper shredding, electronic waste collection, and a used clothing drive. In addition, the public is welcome to attend a compost workshop, a beekeeping discussion, and a planting demonstration by Bob Sickles of Sickles Market, scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
“Anything with a cord,” TVs included, will be accepted and properly recycled (by Monmouth Wire and Computer Recycling, Inc.) at the electronic waste collection site. Call (732)922-3320 or visit www.computerreclamation.com for more information — or bring discarded television sets to the Monmouth County Reclamation Center, where TVs can be properly recycled. Call (732)683-8686 for information.
The nonprofit Lunch Break Inc. of Red Bank will be accepting gently used clothing, as well as nonperishable food items for their pantry. More details at www.lunchbreak.org or (732)747-8577.
SafeGuard Document Destruction will be providing an on-site residential document shredding truck. The truck will accept paper (staples/paper clips OK), and books (hard and soft cover), but no plastic items. The truck has capacity of 12,000 pounds, and will depart when full (residents only; no businesses please).
A free Compost Workshop will be presented between 10 and 10:45 a.m. by Rutgers Master Gardener Tom Matulewicz. While (required) registration has officially closed for the workshop, email [email protected], or call the Monmouth County Recycling Coordinator at (732)683-8686, ext. 6721, for confirmation on any late availabilities, as well as information on Earth Machine composter units.
Local beekeeper Liz Hanson will give a talk and answer questions from 11 to 11:30 a.m., and informational displays (as well as free tree seedlings) will be provided by the Environmental Commission, Little Silver Garden Club, and Parker Homestead 1665. Email Bonnie Akey at [email protected] for additional details.
