Somehow, little old Red Bank survived its first century-plus of existence without an outdoor fashion show featuring skimpily clad amateur models.
Rosa Davis of Bella Mystique filled that cultural void with panache on a chilly night back in April. That’s when several dozen customers of her Broad Street boutique strutted a red carpet laid down outside the Dublin House on Monmouth Street.
The place was packed, the music was throbbing, and there was enough jiggle in the courtyard to boost the ambient temperature by a couple of degrees.
So why wait another century to do it again? Even if the temperatures are now tropical quality.
Why indeed, says Davis. In fact, three months is a long enough interval.
Especially with a whole new crop of customers — students, bankers and other professionals, store and restaurant employees — all but begging to be part of the next show.
So she’s bringing the event back to the Dub Wednesday night. That’s when a couple of dozen local women, none of them professional models, will strut the catwalk in the store’s summerwear.
Among them: Sinead Dunne of Monmouth Beach, whose father Sean co-owns the Dub, and Ruthie Chaparra, of Long Branch, who works at Investors Savings Bank.
The event will feature raffles of goods and services ponied up by local business, with all proceeds going to Lunch Break, the Red Bank soup kitchen.
