As Susan Kinslow, a lifelong Red Banker, was battling a second bout with breast cancer last year, her daughter, Jill was turning 21.
Somehow it seemed appropriate to Jill Kinslow to marry the to events and create something positive they could share.
Thus, the Boozin’ For Boobs bar crawl was born. It returned Saturday to Brannigan’s with more than 200 locals in pink t-shirts who toured Red Bank’s bar circuit, imbibing for cancer research.
“I wanted to do something to raise money, and I turned 21 at the time, so I thought, how about a pub crawl?” Kinslow said.
Year one proved to be successful, Kinslow said, with about 140 people turning out. Saturday’s crawl brought in about $5,000, as more than 200 participants plunked down a registration fee and set out to hit 10 different bars that participated.
With breast cancer at the forefront of people’s minds this month, Susan Kinslow is a living reminder why help is still needed to ward off the incendiary disease. She was diagnosed with breast cancer for the third time this year.
It’s nice for Jill Kinslow to see her efforts going to good use, and to know word-of-mouth is bringing people out for her cause, she said.
“I don’t know who half these people are,” she said, “but they’re all here, so that’s what matters.”
Proceeds from the bar crawl go to the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
