An engraver was busy Friday adding names to a war monument on the grounds of Red Bank Regional High School in preparation for a Memorial Day ceremony Monday. 

The 65 new names are those of vets whose identities became known only after the monument was erected two years ago, says Paul Sniffen of Red Bank Veterans. 

The additions bring the total list, which covers veterans and those killed in action in World War II and later, to about 300. 

Among the names added: Army Spc. Brian Connelly of Union Beach, a 2002 RBR grad who was killed in Iraq in February. (Born Brian Blonske, he later changed his name to his mother’s maiden name.)

Connelly’s family is expected to attend Monday’s ceremony, which begins at 10a.

According to Sniffen, there may be another 300 area vets and soldiers and sailors killed in action who are eligible to have their names on the monument. 

Criteria for inclusion is that vets resided, went to school or worked in Red Bank, Little Silver or Shrewsbury, the three towns that constitute the high school district.
