In the latest edition of Ledger Live, vodcaster Brian Donohue turns his lens on Sea Bright, which he nominates the "worst beach in New Jersey" because of access issues.
In an off-the-news take on the announcement yesterday by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium of the Top Ten beaches in the state (Ocean City came in first), Donohue asked tourism officials and scientists which was the state's worst beach.
They wouldn't play along, so Donohue came up with his own pick.
"A good chunk of the $650 million in federal beach replenishment funds spent in New Jersey has been spent pumping sand onto this beach," Donohue says, his camera zeroing in on 'no trespassing' signs attached to seawall staircases along Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.
"While you and I paid for this sand, good luck getting onto it. The entrances to this sand lie in private hands."
The other winners of the 'best' designation, by the way, were were Long Beach Island, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, Asbury Park, North Wildwood, Cape May, Seaside Heights, Sea Isle City, and Avalon.
Ocean City was also voted the best beach for Day Trips and Ecotourism, while Long Beach Island was chosen as the Best Beach for Family Vacations and Wildwood was elected as Best Beach for Shore Events.
The winners were announced at a press conference held at Sandy Hook.
