SEMI-PRO HOOPSTERS ADOPT RED BANK

Bball_ir

Fans of women’s basketball take note: a semi-pro league has established a new team that will use the Salvation Army gym in Red Bank as its home court.

The Jersey Fusion is one of the latest members of the Women’s Blue, a coast-to-coast organization that aims to promote competitive basketball for
women age 20 and older.

Among the players are former hardcourt stars from college, the National Women’s Basketball League, the WNBA and international teams.

According to a statement posted on the league website, its goal is

to provide exciting, quality, professional
basketball and create a venue for athletes to gain exposure of
professional coaches. As well as provide affordable family
entertainment to local fans during the spring and summer months of May,
June, July and August.

For its first home game, the nonprofit Fusion will face off against the Mass Marvels from Worcester, Mass. at 3p on Saturday, May 16. All youth sports players will get free entry if they wear their team gear and their teams have signed up in advance. Team coaches should contact the Fusion at [email protected] to get their team’s name on the admission list.

Otherwise, tickets are $5 for adult and $3 for children.

The  Fusion is also looking for staff for the 2009 season.
