Figures relased by the Monmouth County Clerk’s office indicate that former Red Bank Councilman John Curley leads his nearest Democratic opponent by just 108 votes out of 250,000 cast between them in the race for county freeholder.
Absentee and provisional ballots could determine the outcome of this one.
“We don’t know yet” if he won, Curley told redbankgreen by phone at 10:40p. “We’re in a donnybrook.”
The clerk’s office reports that with all precincts reporting, Curley’s running mate, incumbent Freeholder Director Lillian Burry, has won re-election, with 126,049 votes out of 494,641 cast, or 25.48 percent.
Curley, now a Middletown resident, is running second in the race for two seats, with 125,683 votes, or 25.41 percent of the total, versus 124,675, or 25.21 percent, for Fair Haven’s Amy Mallet.
Mallet running mate Glenn Mason brings up the rear with 118,055 votes, or 23.87 percent.
