Readers with a burning curiosity about this four-month-old thing called redbankgreen might want to tune into Asbury Radio this Thursday night, when host Maureen Nevin interviews site co-founder and self-styled redbankgreenman John T. Ward.
We presume Nevin will be exploring what we’re up to and why. It’s a call-in show, so listeners can get in on the action, too.
Nevin, a longtime freelance journalist, launched Asbury Radio as a program called Restore by the Shore six years ago. Early on, the show focused on home-improvement issues mixed with news and commentary about redevelopment in Asbury Park.
Since then, the show—which originates from the seventh floor of a classic Asbury Park building at 601 Bangs Avenue—has evolved into a Leonard Lopate/Terry Gross-style forum for wide-ranging discussions of politics and culture in Asbury Park and throughout Monmouth County.
Recent installments have explored the use of eminent domain in Long Branch; the opposition by the mother of a murder victim to the death penalty; and issues related to homelessness. Last week, Nevin featured a live reading of a screenplay called “West End,” using local folks as readers.
In addition to redbankgreen, this week’s schedule includes a chat about the Arts Coalition of Asbury Park‘s plans for “First Saturday,” an effort to attract shoppers to the city’s downtown district on the first Saturday evening of each month.
