What’s going on, civics-wise, this week in some of the towns on the Green…
Fair Haven and Red Bank: Each town hosts its annual “National Night Out” gathering Tuesday evening to get residents, and particularly kids, to casually interact with their police departments, learn some safety lessons and have some fun along the way.
Fair Haven’s event, held behind police headquarters, runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and features a bounce house, a dunking machine, and free food and drinks. Here’s a video of last year’s event.
In Red Bank, The event will include demonstrations by the police department and the volunteer fire and first aid squads, as well as tours of police headquarters and child ID fingerprinting. Red Bank PBA Local 39, Super Foodtown of Red Bank and Manhattan Bagel will offer free food and refreshments.
Representatives of a number of community organizations will be on hand, including the public library, 180 Turning Lives Around, the Boys and Girls Club and others.
Rumson: The mayor and council meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. to discuss what looks like a light agenda. Here it is: Rumson Council agenda 080613

Sea Bright: The third in the series of “Sea Bright 2020” community brainstorming sessions, scheduled for Thursday evening, has been postponed. The change was made to give property owners, many of whom have not been able to return to their homes since Hurricane Sandy, more time to prepare, according to an announcement in a weekly email blast.
The meeting is now scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, in the gym at Holy Cross School in Rumson.
Little Silver: Thursday night’s planning board meeting is cancelled. But the work of the Parker Homestead Committee continues with a meeting at 7:30 p.m. that night at borough hall.
