Funeral arrangements have been made for Red Bank police Chief Steve McCarthy, who died Monday at age 50.
A viewing is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at John E. Day Funeral Home on Riverside Avenue, Captain Darren McConnell tells redbankgreen.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Church on Ocean Avenue in West End, Long Branch.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
A large contingent of law enforcement officials is expected to accompany the funeral processions from Red Bank to Long Branch and then to the cemetery, McConnell said.
“This is going to be pretty large,” said McConnell, the officer in charge of the department. “We’re getting inquiries from all over the place” from police departments volunteering to help out, he said.
“It’ll be a proper sendoff, certainly,” he said.
Mayor Pasquale Menna has announced a month of mourning, through October 23, in McCarthy’s memory. Bunting will remain on public buildings, flags at half-staff, and police will wear black bands on their badges for the duration, he said.
PBA Local 39 has set up a way a charitable fund in the chief’s name.
