A Philadelphia man was in custody Monday after firing a pistol inside a Rumson residence Sunday night, police said.
But Robert Toros, 36, was charged with contempt of court and not for any violations relating to the discharge of the gun, though additional charges may be brought, Detective Chris Isherwood told redbankgreen Monday.
Police were summoned to the house on Auldwood Lane at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday by a maid who fled when she heard gunfire in the basement, Chief Scott Paterson said Sunday.
An investigation determined that the gun, a .38-caliber pistol, had been discharged into a plywood target in the basement by both parties present, said Isherwood.
On questioning Toros and at least one other person, police found no intent to harm or threaten anyone with the gun, and no one was injured, he said.
Toros was present in violation of an order issued Saturday by municipal Judge Richard Thompson, he said.
Police declined to specify the address, or say what relationship Toros had with the home’s occupants.
Toros was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of $2,500 bail set by Thompson. Further charges for involved parties are possible, Isherwood said, noting that a Rumson ordinance forbids the discharge of firearms within 450 feet of a residence.
